Winchester 270

This is my .270 Winchester. It was passed down to me when my grandfather passed away. It was manufactured in the United States by Winchester and has been produced from 1925- present day. The .270 Winchester was designed in 1923 but was not produced till 1925.

The significance of this firearm to me is that it is the first rifle I ever shot with the help of my grandfather. It is the first rifle I ever took hunting with my grandfather when he first let me hunt. Its a rather funny hunting story. We went down into the field of our farm and set up in the fence line. We sat there for about thirty minuets and then finally saw some deer come out from the tree line. We waited a while to see if a buck would come out. Eventually, after waiting about ten more minuets, an eight point buck come out of the tree line. I hold the rifle up and load it and take my shot, I missed, and the deer ran back into the woods. I sat there and said “Lets wait and see if he comes back out.” my grandfather replies and says, “Okay, but I don’t think he will come back out.” Sure enough the buck comes back out of the woods and I take my shot again. I missed him again. This repeated about five time of him coming in and out of the woods and me shooting at him. My grandfather finally looks at me after the fifth time and says, “Lets go to the house, I think you have wasted enough bullets.” So we get up and go to the house because it was getting dark in the process. When we got up the the gate to exit the field I turn around and look back down into the field and sure enough there was that eight point buck standing there out of the woods. To this day I have still been hunting that buck to make my grandfather proud. I saw him on day while I was moving hay in the tractor and he has grown to be a twelve point from what I could tell.
